The closed cell structure in Aerothane foams is generated by using elastic micro baloons inside of TPU elastomers. These ballons hold up to 600 bars / 8,700 psi of pressure. This unique combination makes pressure stable but high elasitc thermoplastic foams possible for the first time ever. Besides the superior chemical properties of TPU, the now resulting mechanical properties are unrivaled compared to common closed cell foams. Because Aerothane can be based on the same TPU as common breathable textile membranes, a combination of water repellent, breathable and temperature insulating foam can be created for the first time. Aerothane is made from thermoplastic Polyurethanes and therefore is produced from renewable, natural and unharmful resources.
